I decided to use coffee as a communication tool and thus, I designed a Vietnamese coffee press above a cup. Inside it, I included a group of people smiling and laughing to show them having a good time.

final designs
Design 1
Process of designing:
used the Quick Selection Tool to highlight the areas I wanted to colour. then used Brush to start painting. chose the type of brush I found suited to paint.
when i was done, I played around with the saturation and lightness.
when i was done with the picture and background, i started with the font. i picked Rage Italic, 72.

played with the brightness and contrast to make the picture stand out.
finally used the filters. used the angles strokes. as for the background, i used the halftone pattern.

Sketches (communication series)
well, my scanner died so I used a camera instead. hopefully, it's clear enough for all to see.
I have chosen coffee to be a part of my design for two reasons:
1. because my blog's name is thank you for the coffee
2. because people usually chat over a cup of coffee.
the different tools they use to make coffee is centred. below are supposed to be people drinking coffee and smoking shisha and cigarettes. above are like a few chess pieces falling. why? because according to my research, people there played chess and smoked shisha and cigarettes when drinking coffee. the background which is all the characters would maybe have their opacity at 75% or 80% so that the main focus would stay at the coffee (this applies to all). i'm not sure about the percentage of the opacity yet as i haven't experimented on it.
same concept as before. only the cup has to be bigger. below are an old couple eating and drinking at an old kopitiam and having a good laugh. above would be a picture of a person making the coffee.

I was thinking of a way to include Andy Warhol and Roy Lichenstein's work into my design and came up with those. I was browsing through some of my comic books to see how they drew their characters and found James Jean work. i liked it so i decided to use his work as part of my inspiration too.

This was an experiment to see how it would be like when it's leaning more towards Roy Lichenstein's work. i kept the coffee as the main focus. And yes, I do not know how to draw hands. Mr Deepak didn't seem to like it very much and kept insisting I designed it like my first few sketches.
so i had to play around with positive and negative spaces.
my last 3 designs which are the coffee cups one. take note that the proportions are wrong. the centre (cup) should be BIG and the main focus. what i ended up drawing was well, kind of small.
Mr Deepak suggested that I did different types of coffee cups from different cultures, so here it is..

proportion is kind of right. below, again, couple of people laughing and having a good time. i wanted to include a picture of vietnam too. i found a picture of two ladies working on a field and it looked so peaceful so i decided to include it in.

James Jean
I was browsing through some comic books and i found some artwork from James Jean. It inspired some of my sketches so i'm referencing him now.

Research Component (Pop Art)
Pop art is the movement in art where artists began to create art with the subject of things that are iconic in nature such as famous people, advertising, and movies.
I have chosen Andy Warhol's work to analyze for Pop Art.

I also chose him because his style compared to Andy Warhol is very different. I love how his art is like comic strips. simple with occasional conversations.

- Texture: texture can be portrayed in an image where we can go back to our memories to feel the surface we have touched. in this case, a comic book page.
